Director of Social Research and Practical Harm Assessment for the Captain Blue Project
Our scientific and field research among tobacco consumers shows that consumption behavior and dependency levels differ across age groups and genders, while also following recognizable patterns within each age and gender range.
For this reason, we believe that providing structured guidelines on the method and timing of consumption can help reduce overall usage. Instead of relying only on one-step cessation models—which often create anxiety around quitting tobacco and may be one of the main reasons for low acceptance or relapse—we aim to introduce a guided consumption model.
This model focuses on how, when, where, and in which social environments consumption takes place, with the goal of helping users gradually move from excessive consumption toward lower, more occasional, and recreational use.
Through new plant- and fruit-based products, the elimination of tar, reduced nicotine levels, and premium-quality products produced without paper or filters, Captain Blue aims to support environmental protection by preventing filter waste in nature.
At the same time, by offering scientific, practical, educational, and psychological guidance, the project seeks to influence consumer habits and behavior, ultimately contributing to a reduction in tobacco consumption.
With Captain Blue, the conversation is not only about what you smoke—it is about how you live. Many people already know that certain routines feel hard to change; habits form slowly, often tied to stress, social settings, boredom, or years of repetition. That is why abrupt, all-or-nothing demands so frequently fail: they ignore the real rhythm of daily life. Captain Blue approaches the challenge differently—by helping you turn harmful patterns into healthier, more conscious ones step by step, without shame and without pretending that change happens overnight.
“Bad habits” rarely exist in a vacuum. They are usually the visible part of a deeper need—for a pause, a ritual, connection, or relief. Traditional products and rigid quit-only messaging can leave people feeling isolated or judged, which only strengthens the cycle. Captain Blue’s perspective is grounded in respect for the individual: your history, your context, and your pace matter. Our aim is to equip you with structure, knowledge, and product options that make it easier to choose better behaviors in the moments when it actually counts—at work, at home, with friends, or during travel.
Turning a habit around begins with awareness. Small adjustments—when you reach for a product, how much you use, and what alternatives you keep within reach—compound over time. Captain Blue supports that process through clear guidance tied to real-world behavior, not abstract slogans. Where our research points to differences by age, gender, or lifestyle, we reflect those insights in how we communicate and recommend routines, so guidance feels relevant rather than generic.
Product design plays a central role in supporting better habits. By developing plant- and fruit-based concepts without traditional paper or filters, and by reducing tar and nicotine relative to conventional cigarettes, Captain Blue offers a path that aligns better health intentions with respect for the planet. Fewer discarded filters mean less litter in streets, parks, and waterways—a tangible benefit that connects personal choice to environmental responsibility. When the product you choose matches your values, motivation becomes easier to sustain.
Education and habit change go together. Captain Blue invests in practical, plain-language information so consumers understand what they are using, why it matters, and how to integrate it into a broader plan for moderation or transition. We believe that informed users make steadier progress: they can recognize triggers, plan alternatives, and celebrate small wins instead of chasing unrealistic perfection. That mindset—progress over punishment—is at the heart of moving from “bad” habits to “good” ones that actually last.
Community and dignity matter too. Habits improve when people feel supported, not surveilled. Whether you are curious about reducing consumption, exploring new formats, or simply learning how Captain Blue thinks about tobacco in the modern world, we invite you to treat this as a long-term relationship with your own wellbeing. Better habits are not a destination you arrive at once; they are a series of better decisions, reinforced by better products and better guidance.
Captain Blue is building for that future—one where pleasure, responsibility, and science can coexist. If you are ready to explore how small, consistent shifts can rewrite the story of your routine, you are already taking the first step. We are here to walk the next steps with you: thoughtfully, transparently, and with a clear commitment to helping you replace what no longer serves you with choices that do.
